Painter František Matoušek graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1993-1999). As one of the few on the Czech scene, he was able to discover a new original method and form to convey something quite ordinary. He created a painting style characteristic only for him. He pulls out individual threads from classic denim, thereby creating very specific paintings. He proceeds unconventionally via reduction, i.e. rather than by adding material he takes it away. He lightly completes a canvas thus formed through acrylic painting. Frantisek Matoušek’s works are very sought-after on the local art scene, and there has also been interest from collectors in the US. Most recently he has expanded his “denim” method to fashion and he is involved in original models in collaboration with fashion designer Monica Drápelová.
